Women’s Leadership Group Surpasses $1 Billion Valuation and Chief Hires First CFO

It has been a big year for the company Chief, as it breaks $1 billion in valuation and also appointed its first CFO. Let’s explore Chief in further detail and find out more about this astounding success.

What Is Chief?

Chief is a company designed to create connections between professional women working in corporate leadership. Chief works on a membership basis, and women who apply need to either be an executive or be moving towards a VP position. It is possible to apply yourself (individuals comprise 30% of memberships), but many are nominated by colleagues who see they would be a good fit.

The Finances of Chief

Recently, Chief raised $100 million in a Series B round, and has now smashed through a $1 billion valuation, which is incredibly impressive for any company, let alone one which was only founded in 2019. Co-founders Carolyn Childers and Lindsay Kaplan have really made their mark, going beyond their initial goal of forming a “small private network”. While Chief is still exclusive, its success is definitely not small - and looking to hire CFO talent demonstrates this.

Chief Hiring a CFO

After such successes, it's perhaps not surprising that the company has hired its first chief financial officer (CFO). Chief is one company that is practising what it preaches - creating opportunities for women.

A Vision For The Future

Carolyn Childers, co-founder and also the chief executive of the company, explained that their subscription-based model aims to increase the amount of women who are promoted into management. Chief does this through a rich tapestry of networking, coaching, and building a community of likeminded women who can help one another to thrive. 70% of Chief’s membership base is sponsored by their companies, with Alphabet Inc., Google, Delta Air Lines Inc., Netflix Inc., and Nike Inc. providing valuable sponsorships.

What The Numbers Say

According to the management of Chief, women are currently filling 24% of C-suite positions, 27% of senior vice president roles, and 30% of vice president positions - numbers that will hopefully grow as Chief makes waves and encourages women leadership groups. And with around 15,000 members, it seems like this is a real possibility.

Chief is proving to be a benchmark in the world of women’s leadership, creating new opportunities and experiences that might otherwise be difficult to access for women in many industries.
